A back of the pencil calculation
Posted: January 17, 2024 Filed under: Uncategorized 6 CommentsThis was said by a friend and former co-worker, says the contributor. It is a mashup of “back of the envelope calculation” (rough calculation or estimate) and “pencil (someone or something) in” (to tentatively schedule someone for an appointment or plan something for a temporary date). A big thanks to Vicky Brown for sending this one in.

Here is one I used: “To get a head up” A combination of giving a heads up and getting a leg up.
Was this intentional or unintentional? Can you give me the context when you said it?
Unintentional. Said in the context of “I guess I’ll have a head up on the competition.”
Excellent. May I post and give you props?
Yes sure you can post it, with or without credit
